Yes. A lot. Alec was my permanent warden but the Admiral gave him to someone else.

Harry graduated. He was here for a while, but he did it.

Oh - yes, I remember him.

That was a long time ago. Doesn't it bother you not to have another permanent inmate?

I mean... I like being paired. I like being paired better than I like being not paired, and I miss having an inmate. But maybe the Admiral thought I needed to sit out for a while, you know? Or maybe there ain't any inmates here right now that he thinks I'd be good for. So I ain't bothered, 'cause I trust him on this. It's one of the only things I trust him on at all.

Does it bother you that you don't have a warden?

You got a lot of people who care about you, Credence. Maybe we're all supposed to be your wardens. Maybe the Admiral wants you to see that there ain't just one person who'll go to bat for you.

I mostly feel like I'm seeing people who say they'll do that for a month and then never talk to me again.

If they really only care because they got told to, and now they really don't care at all - then they ain't worth worrying about, and they sure ain't the right wardens for you.

... I just - I had the right warden. Three times. I don't think the Admiral wants to help me any more.

If that's true, then he's the one who doesn't matter.

You're still here, right? You can still-- use the boat, and use us.

I guess. But nothing - matters here. I've killed two people and nobody cared.

I think it just-- matters in a different kind of way. Dying and killing ain't nothing here, but it ain't the same as it is in places where people stay dead.

Were you you when you killed people, or were you affected by something like a flood or a breach?
