He takes a deep breath, presses it down. In, out, in out. Focus. He
won't let himself get mad or frightened. He can be better. He can show
her he can be better.
The anger rises in him like a slow tide - who would do that, what would they want to prove, how could they use someone like Elizabeth that way - but he's familiar with it. The rhythm of feeling the Obscurus stir, pushing it back down, is slowly becoming more familiar again. Having the beast inside him at the height of its powers is making its moods easier to identify, even as it rattles at the bars of its cage all the harder.
"....good. I'm glad it didn't. Nobody should - nobody should do that."
She can practically see it in him, and she looks at him, his eyes, his jaw, even as she can feel the muscles in his body tense up against her.
She's proud of him. She's scared, too, a little, because right now she doesn't want to know what would happen to her if he erupted again-- but proud. It shows in the way she smiles at him now, and her fingers grasp his so she can squeeze his hand.
That little touch makes him fairly vibrate with anxiety, but only for a
second, and then he relaxes - like a nervous stray cat who isn't sure
whether a touch is going to be good or bad until it's underway.
"I was hurt once and - another wizard healed me," he says. "It wasn't his
job or anything like that, he could just - do it. I think, maybe most of
them can."
"It could be useful now," he says, "if you're hurting," but he won't pursue it any further than that. He steps into the elevator with her and watches her press a button.
She appreciates him not pressing further- honestly, honestly, she's deeply ashamed of the whole episode. She feels used on top of her physical pain, and it's making her feel dirty.
It's taking a lot already to stay calm in front of Credence, someone she doesn't want to bother for varied reasons. It's not obvious, but this close, he'll be able to feel it in her shoulders.
"Let's talk about something else," she proposes, quietly, as the elevator goes.
"Oh." He looks a little wide-eyed at the coincidence - he was aware Elizabeth had a roommate, sometimes, but not who it was. "She's been - very kind. She showed me a gallery in the Enclosure that she made."
"She - she gave me some art books from the library, first," he says. "She said that some things are - are easier to express in art, than by talking. I think she wanted to show me that, in the gallery."
"And how did you find it?" A lot of the art she saw in there was very Western, but there were pieces in there that stirred her. Even if she doesn't understand most art.
"...strange," he's forced to conclude. "There was a lot I didn't
understand. But...it helped me to know what she meant, when she told me
about how art can....express things."
"There was - a painting of a woman," he says, steering his mind away
sharply from the city scene, the smear of indistinct darkness across the
night. The things it had stirred in him, the way he'd panicked. He hates
thinking he might have scared Annie.
"She was, um, naked. But that's not what I liked about it," he adds
hurriedly. Beyond the initial embarrassment of feeling like he was
intruding somehow, he hadn't really noticed, there'd been nothing salacious
about it to him.

A little. Well. She lost a lot of blood, but she's always a little pale around the nose.

"Have you been to the infirmary?"

She keeps holding his hand like this, trying to get him to calm down, stop vibrating.

Maybe he could, too, if he knew how. If he had a wand. If he wasn't broken.
