Uh... [He leans back agains this cabinets and taps his foot on the
floor a little.]
I mean, I thought I didn't like it all that much back then. I skipped
classes a lot because I had to sit still a lot, which, you know.
[You've met him, Credence.]
Most of the teachers just wanted you to memorize the book and not do much,
uh, but some of them were okay. I had an art teacher once that I liked.
Think he might even have liked me.
Because my dad was never around, and my mom didn't have the heart to say
'no' to me most of the time. When my dad was around we fought, once I got
old enough.
Needed a diploma to get into the Police Academy, learn how to do that. But by that time I knew what I was doing it for. I never really got why I needed to learn some of the stuff I did-- and in the Academy it was cool, 'cause I got to learn stuff I needed to learn about and then go out and train.
[Credence is the second person to ask him that, and he wonders
why. He's been a cop for almost half his life, what the hell
else would he do? He's good at it, it's what he knows.]

Date: 2019-03-27 11:08 am (UTC)...I don't know if we were friends. He was my warden.
[Jesse was his friend. Rey was his friend. Alec, he's....still not altogether sure.]

Date: 2019-03-27 11:15 am (UTC)Yeah? [He scratches his jaw, lightly, thinking about that.]
Well, what the hell do I know, right? Everyone's different. Think you'd say we were friends, C?

Date: 2019-03-27 11:17 am (UTC)I...I don't really know what makes somebody a friend.
[He doesn't have many casual friends. Most of his relationships are either very intense or basically acquaintances.]

Date: 2019-03-27 11:53 am (UTC)...Huh. You know what, I wanna be able to say what does, but I don't think I know, either.
I dunno. I think we are, I told you stuff I don't tell most people. I like hanging out with you. But maybe it ain't the same on your end.

Date: 2019-03-27 12:00 pm (UTC)Is that what it takes? Talking and hanging out?

Date: 2019-03-27 12:07 pm (UTC)[He shrugs.]
If you like hanging out, still, sure. That's pretty much all I did with my friends in school.

Date: 2019-03-27 12:33 pm (UTC)...I like it. And I never went to school.
no subject
Date: 2019-03-27 12:53 pm (UTC)Yeah, I hardly went, either. [Said with a little grin-- he went more often than he'd give himself credit for, but he isn't exactly bookish.]

Date: 2019-03-27 04:18 pm (UTC)Sounds like the sort of thing Ma wanted us to do. Except for liking us.

Date: 2019-03-27 04:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, like I said. Most of my teachers were glad to have an excuse to kick me outta class.
Got a lot worse once I got to high school and bought a motorcycle, too. Not that my parents knew.

Date: 2019-03-27 04:27 pm (UTC)Didn't your teachers talk to your parents?
[that's how it works right]

Date: 2019-03-27 04:30 pm (UTC)[He snorts.]
Yeah, sure. But I didn't really listen to my parents, either.

...I wish I'd been able to go to school. I've spent so long here learning to read and write better, and I'm still not very good at it.
[Not that you should feel bad about forsaking your education or anything!]

Didn't you need school to be a policeman?
