•CONTACT METHOD: Plurk at
metonumia!
•THREAD-JACKING: Go ahead, but if it’s getting to 20+ comments, IC inbox?
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: Not specifically for the movie, please. I’m cool with him being fourth-walled as a Potterverse character if/when it’s ever worked out that he is one. There’s a lot of lore he’d never refer to simply because he doesn’t know about it (or because it doesn’t exist yet - the movie is set in 1926. Voldemort isn't a thing yet).
•BACKTAGGING: Usually fine! That being said, I do have a tendency to drop ongoing threads before major events if they seem to have reached a logical stopping point, with exceptions on request.
•AVOIDED TOPICS: N/A. Conversely, Credence has a history of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his adoptive mother. If you want CR with him that doesn’t explicitly touch on that subject, or would rather not play with him at all, please let me know. I’ll also check permissions before tagging with anything sensitive.
•PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: She/her
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•CURRENT CANON POINT: His apparent ‘death’ at the end of the movie
•DESCRIPTION/DEMEANOUR: Credence Barebone is a young man, thin and pale with dark hair in a bowl cut. He’s tall - 5’ 11” - but tends to hold himself in a way that makes himself seem smaller, usually hunched forward with his head down. He dresses in dark and slightly mismatched clothing which even for the time period seems a bit outdated. He has an anxious and avoidant disposition, going out of his way to avoid eye contact or conversation.
•ABILITIES: Although untaught, Credence has the magical potential of a (quite powerful) Potterverse wizard, with all that that entails. Over and above this, he is an Obscurial - that is, host to an Obscurus, a parasitic force that possesses and feeds from wizards who suppress their powers. It manifests as a black cloud-like entity which can kill instantly and cause massive material damage. On the Barge, he will be limited to minor spells (once he’s learnt them); the Obscurus will be more like a storm wind than the building-destroying maelstrom it is in canon.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Credence seems physically healthy but may have symptoms of malnourishment on arrival; he was apparently living on the same ‘charitable’ gruel handouts his mother gave to local children. He has some scars, having been beaten by his adoptive mother throughout much of his life.
•CABIN INFORMATION: A worn wooden door leading into a small bare attic room. There is a narrow bed, a trunk for his clothes, a desk and chair, a few books - prayer books, a Bible, probably something anti-witchcraft - and an oil lamp. Everything is second-hand but well looked-after by its current owner.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Religion, magic/witchcraft, child abuse.
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Yes. You might bump into the Obscurus while you’re in there. Good luck.
•MIMICRY: Yes
•VIOLENCE: Yes
•MAGIC: Yes
•DEBATE: Yes, bearing in mind that it will be months before Credence even thinks about getting into an argument.
•OTHER / NOTES: General rule applies of ‘I’m probably up for it, let’s talk’.
